Renewable Resources and Policy

Outline

Forest policy in the United States of America

What is over-exploitation?

What is the impact?

Natural reasons for purposeful growth

Economic reasons for purposeful growth

Benefits verse Unsustainability

Ideally

Forest policy in the United States of America

Laws and regulations that endorse the protection of America’s national forests

Helps to maintain a healthy ecosystem in order to work towards a sustainable future and quality of life

Solidifies the relationship between humanity and the natural world

What is over-exploitation?

The overharvesting of a renewable resource to the point of diminishing returns

Where the addition of production will eventually lead to a lower yield of benefit

How? If there is a continuous overexploitation of a resource –in this case forests- then that leaves the door open to the possibility of destruction or even extinction

What is the impact?

Industrialization

An increase in demand for natural resources

Inverse supply; cannot meet the speed of the demand

Rapid human population growth

Natural reasons for purposeful growth

CO2 cycle; cooling and cleanliness

Breathing

Refill aquifers

Purify soil

Noise pollution

Economic reasons for purposeful growth

Gives us medicine

Gives us food

Timber and resin creations

Employment

Benefits verse Unsustainability

Forests have a multitude of natural and economic reasons for growth that benefit not only humanity, but also nature; a hand in hand relationship

BUT

Over usage of forests for man-made products

Endangering species within wildlife areas

Barren wastelands

Increase demand for natural resources

Ideally

Limit the overexploitation of forest to a reasonable amount

Support legislation and regulations of forest policy

Should reflect the limit

Promote preservation of natural environments
