Qualitative vs Quantitative Path

Qualitative vs Quantitative Path

Select a problem in your profession that could be resolved through scholarly research.

Write a 1,050-1,750 word paper comparing and contrasting the different paths that would lead you to conduct a qualitative or quantitative study to resolve the problem.

For each path (qualitative and quantitative) describe:

  • The intent of the study
  • The types of research questions you would ask
  • The types of data you would collect
  • How you would obtain an appropriate sample and sample size
  • The limitations because of the path chosen

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Quantitative Methods

The most common quantitative research designs in social science research include:

  • Experimental
  • Quasi-Experimental
  • Ex-Post Facto
  • Descriptive

Each design type involves studying a problem in which the interactions between variables are of interest. What determines the particular design is what interactions are examined between the variables.

Complete the Quantitative Research Methods Matrix according to the following guidelines:

  1. List the primary characteristics of each design
  2. Locate a current peer-reviewed article (within the past  5 years) in your field that demonstrates each quantitative research method
  3. Explain the following for each article:
    1. The problem investigated
    2. How the sample was selected
    3. How variables were defined and measured
    4. How data were collected and analyzed
    5. The key findings
    6. The generalizability of the findings
