1. For this assignment, your boss has asked you to focus solely on forklift safety.

Using what you have learned about controlling hazardous energy, write a step-by-step procedure on how to prepare a forklift for maintenance (zero energy). Your procedure must be at least one page in length, while being descriptive enough that someone else could use it to perform the work safely on the equipment.

Your company has four forklifts used in the warehouse. Two forklifts have a 4,000 pound capacity at a 28 inches load center and two forklift have a 6,000 pound capacity at a 34 inches load center. Your warehouse regularly handle palletized loads with load centers of 34, 38 and 40 inches. You will need to show your calculations and answers for each of these forklifts.

Your total report back to your boss must be a total of two pages (one for the procedure and the other showing your calculations for the safe load capacities for the company’s forklifts), not including title and reference pages.

You must follow APA guidelines throughout the assignment. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations.

2. Confined Space Fatality Incident Review

Throughout the years, there have been a number of multiple-fatality incidents within confined spaces in the workplace. Choose one such event, and summarize what contributed to the incident. Utilize the knowledge that you have gained in this unit, as well as personal experience, to determine what could have been done to prevent the accident.

Your paper must be a minimum of one page in length. You must include a minimum of three sources. All sources must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying APA

citations.

3. Instructions

For this assignment, choose a journal article from the CSU Online Library that deals with any of the material presented in the first four units of this course.

The article critique for this course must be at least one page in length, double-spaced, and must follow APA formatting. The Business Source Complete database is a good source of journals for safety related articles. If you have a specific area of interest that is covered later in the course, you may ask for professor approval.

All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations.

Some suggested topics include:

· the organizational role of the safety professional,

· the “business” of safety,

· hazard avoidance models,

· current regulatory trends in occupational safety and health,

· the safety professional’s role in disaster preparedness,

· workplace standards, and

· current occupational health issues.

The Article Critique must include the following components:

· a brief introduction to the article;

· discuss action strategies to combat workplace hazards within the article; and

· describe concepts of exposure assessment, hierarchy of controls, workplace monitoring, and medical surveillance could be used to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses.
